Curators at the world renowned Musee de l Elysee in Lausanne selected photographers from hundreds of candidates. Aperture, a not-for-profit organization devoted to photography and the visual arts has organized this traveling exhibition and produced the accompanying publications. The Marquette Choral Society begins rehearsals of Handel's "Messiah." All those interested in singing with the group are invited to attend. New members may join through the third rehearsal on January 28th. No audition is necessary. Nominal dues and the amount for music purchase will be collected during these first three rehearsals. The Choral Society will use the Novello edition by Watkins Shaw at a cost of approximately $25. The Spring concerts are scheduled for Saturday evening, April 26th and Sunday afternoon, April 27th at the Reynolds Recital Hall on the NMU campus.

In conjunction with the Heikki Lunta Winterfest,Irontown will offer narrated horse-drawn sleigh rides through Old Towne at the Talven Juhlat (Mid-Winter Festivities), the culmination of the three-day festival. Old Towne is an area that was closed to the public for almost 50 years, but was reopened in 2006. Families can take this half-hour tour through old neighborhoods and past historic mine sites starting from the Negaunee Senior Center where refreshments and historic displays will be available. Volunteers from Irontown, the City of Negaunee and the Negaunee Historical Society have come together to provide tours, photo's and maps to make this a fun and educational ride down memory lane for many current and former residents. Added fun this year will be a snowshoe/cross country skiing geocaching event provided by the Marquette County Health Department. Snow fort building, sledding and a bonfire will be available in Old Towne Festival Park during this time.

A maximum limit of 40 mushers will be registered for this race. The Midnight Run is an eight dog race. This race is typically a much faster race than the longer distance U.P. 200, due to the distance involved. This race has become one of the most popular races for the Upper Peninsula's sled dog racing weekend, primarily due to the fine field of competitors it routinely draws.

June 5th, Cliff Mining Museum Opens for Season, The Cliff Shaft Mine Museum opens today for the season. It will be open from 10am to 4pm, Tuesday through Saturdays, with a nominal admission. Two new displays this year will be the L.S.I. Railroad equipment and a logging display. The L.S.I. display will show the different railroad equipment that has been or is being used by the railroad. The logging display will depict what was used by the loggers both by hand and power. The historical Dry Building located outside will provide the visitor views of miners past and present, headgear and other safety equipment available to miners of yesteryear, displays on blasting and diamond drilling equipment, various types of communication available to the miners and much more. Don't forget your camera so that you can have a momento of your visit standing inside the 30 ton shovel bucket in front of the Dry building or in front of the 170-ton Iron Ore truck. 906-485-1882
